So I have moved from Tumblr to WordPress as can be seen from the new template. The site is not done yet and will probably go through a few more revisions before I am done, but I am sure that I am going to stay with this platform.
The question is, why would I want to move away from Tumblr and into a WordPress platform? The answer can vary, but there were a few things that pushed me away from the Tumblr platform. The following are a few points as to why I changed over.
Search Engine Optimization
I received no results in Search Engines in Tumblr. With WordPress, however, there are tons of SEO plugins that I can use, even more so, most themes now come with SEO as a focal point.
Image/Video Centered
If you look at the Tumblr community, it is mostly run by these two forms of media. Even short text posts are often overlooked. With WordPress, long text posts are acceptable, even encouraged.
Plugins & Themes
WordPress offers tons of plugins and themes to choose from. Even beyond that, there are additional optimization such as categories, easy to use comments, etc… With Tumblr, if your theme doesn’t come with the additional functionality, you have to hand code the desired stuff in.
Responsive Layout
In WordPress, it is easier to customize your content and layout based on the screen resolution and device of you user.
So there it is. Just a few reasons why I have left Tumblr and moved to WordPress. Now a lot of my older posts have been very Tumblr focused, so they may not seem to work well within WordPress, but all future posts will work better. I promise.
